6 - The Eldest Martial Sister Gave Up Treatment
### Chapter 4: The Witch Queen, Bai Lian! Wasn't it the Lord of the Underworld? Everything changed when that "invisible friend" vanished. "He disappeared. Did I do something to offend him?" The young girl, whose strength had nearly reached the pinnacle of the continent, was now listless and growing thinner by the day. Ghost tried many ways to cheer her up. But all his efforts were in vain. "You can try making new friends." "It's not the same. He was special. Without him by my side, I would have lost all emotions long ago." "…" Until that morning. Ghost pushed open the girl's bedroom door and found her collapsed on the floor. He thought it was like any other time, expecting her to wake up soon and smile at him, saying: "Oh, I failed to die again today." However, things did not turn out as he had imagined. He waited for a day. He waited for a month. He waited for a year, then ten years, a hundred years... No matter how unwilling he was to believe, he had to admit the girl was truly gone. **[Filth as Sharp as Blades]** This was the dagger the girl had used to end her life after trying countless methods. It was two-thirds of a foot long, with a blade of dark purple, dull and lightless, and a handle made from a solid piece of Netherstone, colder than ice. When plunged into the body, it would create a half-inch-wide wound. The wound would not bleed or discolor. The person struck by it appeared as if they were sleeping. And indeed, they were just sleeping—never to wake again. For many years thereafter, Ghost searched for that invisible friend. He cloaked himself in a black robe that saw no sunlight. He attempted to walk every path he knew the girl had taken. Ice plains. Snow peaks. Deep ravines. Streams. Perhaps, because he was born without much inspiration, he never found any invisible friend, but he saw many lost souls and drifting snow spirits. Ultimately, he returned to the Palace of the Underworld. It was the first home the girl had settled in after countless years of wandering. He vowed to guard it for the rest of his life. It was a promise and a token of gratitude. Unchanging for a thousand years, immutable for ten thousand. Even as seas dry up and rocks crumble, even as the heavens fall and the earth shatters, he would remain there. Perhaps one day, the girl would rise again from that crystal coffin? And so it was. While outsiders thought he was a long-standing elder of the Palace of the Underworld, he had in fact guarded it for ten thousand years. He watched as one Lord of the Palace succeeded another and as the succession of the Palace traditions gradually changed. The process was so prolonged that he forgot his original name and his body slowly decayed. Even though he had used various methods to extend his life, because he refused to ascend to the celestial realm, he finally had to face the end. Ghost's initial plan was to watch the current Lord of the Palace retire, and then he would leave, going back to the ice plains where he had first encountered trouble to live out his last days. But fate was unkind. The Palace of the Underworld had an internal traitor. This traitor even colluded with powerful outsiders. Even if he revealed his true strength, he could not reverse the downfall of the Palace. "Because I'm too old now. "I'm no longer the young man who traveled the four seas with you. "Let alone the Eastern..." --- Please bookmark: [Insert website URL] Previous Chapter [Current Chapter Directory] Next Chapter
