1048 - Childhood Friend of the Zenith
The air reverberated with a colossal tail swaying vigorously, boasting a snowy white coat of fur. Although the roar that echoed was not particularly loud, its intensity was such that it made the very ground tremble under its sound. A man could feel his strength waning as he glanced at the entity clutching his throat. He had to escape the clutches of this mysterious being, but the hold was unyielding. Its power was overwhelming, suffusing the area with crushing force. "Where did something like this come from…?" he wondered, bewildered. His gaze scanned his adversary and confirmed his suspicion: it was surely of the Moon's Night Tribe. The creature appeared to have imbued itself fully with the blessings of the nocturnal Man Gye—a condition that mirrored the pureblooded lineage of the tribe. When Yusa wielded his true essence, the situation was not entirely dissimilar. Yet, this creature was on a level so far beyond comparison that it seemed wasteful to even make that comparison. The crushing force seemed capable of shattering divinity itself with ease, a feat incomprehensible for ordinary beings. Before he'd realized it, his own form was being propelled through the void at astonishing speed. Were it not for the resilient barrier that halted his trajectory, he would have been obliterated. Desperately regaining his senses, the man unfurled three pairs of wings to arrest his rapid flight. Backing up, he sought to pinpoint his assailant, only for a chilling cry to sound from behind him. Turning rapidly, he found his face greeted by a fist from the heavens. The blow sent him crashing into the ground, shattering the earth on impact. Stifling a moan of pain, he endeavored to rise, only to perceive a formidable presence above him. Fire gathered ominously around the beast's mouth, its aura foreboding and unsettling. Instinct screamed that this attack must be stopped immediately. "Stop--!!" he commanded, directing his will to bind the creature only to find his attempt futile. Witnessing the binding of his command shatter upon contact, he realized the grave implication: his adversary was also crafted to ascend to dominion. Within their energy lay the potent potential to ascend to a supreme state. This creature could very well be a vessel from another realm, like himself—a possible envoy sent by a rival of the Taechon's interests. Regardless, it must be eliminated. There was no room for interference in the divine plan. With that resolution, he called forth numerous feathers to weave a formidable trident, substantially more robust than any weapon he had held before, surrounding it with vital energy infused with divine essence and sparking with luminescent electricity. The somber sky twisted as if thunder was imminent, underlining that this was his domain—a realm responding to his will. Raising the trident—consolidated with gathered electricity—the man moved, channeling energy amassed over vast epochs. Though seemingly eternal, this was expended immediately facing imminent peril. Despite having become a vessel, albeit imperfect, he still required much from the Man Gye, hoping to ultimately reach his master. His current master, still adrift amidst these unprecedented happenings, would eventually be consumed to fulfill Taechon's will. Therefore, anyone opposing that destiny must perish here. As he swung the radiant spear with conviction, something unexpected occurred. His left side was suddenly unbalanced; his arm was gone. The trident was soaring through the air, disembodied from its handler. How could this have happened? The creature, with swift talons, had seamlessly severed the limb, its rapidity beyond comprehension. The opponent was not only fast and lethal with their speed and attack but also carried a fearsome force that sent his body staggering once more. As he parried one fist, another came hurling towards him. He blocked it again, but each impact inexorably pushed him back further. He decided to use this momentum to his advantage and increase the distance between them. Reaching out, energy surged forth, enveloping his severed hand mid-air. With a whistle of energy, the hand reattached itself to his left shoulder. This method was faster than regeneration. He flexed the restored limb to adjust, poised to retreat and gain some space. But before he could, a tail sprang forth, entangling his body. He sought to escape rapidly, yet multiple tails wrapped around him, leaving him no room for escape. "Damn it!" This was becoming dire. He widened his eyes. With a thrum, his heart pulsed, unlocking the power within—a divine power. The man attempted to wield this bestowed power to extricate himself from the bind. However, an unexpected complication arose. "What…?" Something abruptly bit his thigh, searing hot, a shadowy form seemingly sent from the very creature before him. What attack was this now? It became clear all too quickly. "What is…?" He was stunned. His ability to manifest divine power was impeded. Normally, it should have activated, but now it did not. The man stilled, shocked at the absurdity. Before he could react, his adversary’s fangs approached menacingly. "This is problematic—!" Bound and confined, he had no means to evade. As teeth loomed to tear into his neck— Thunk! The fangs paused at his skin's surface. The creature’s body, massive moments before, suddenly shrank and collapsed before him. "What…?" The man let out a dry laugh, comprehending the identity of the overpowering entity. It was a dragon. A dragon that had infiltrated this domain to confront him, now fallen and harmless. "How did this happen?" What power animated that creature? Many questions clouded his mind, but in that moment, they were irrelevant. His immediate relief was that he had survived, and more importantly— "I have to finish it." —to kill the foe who could not fulfill its role, unconscious as it was. The visage and presence it displayed were not those of a mere dragon. It was truly hazardous. “It is fortunate. This means I can deal with it now.” Determined to eliminate future interference, he raised his trident to pierce the dragon’s neck. Just then— Crunch! A spike erupted from the ground, forcing him to hastily spin the trident around, his body shoved backward. In that instant, the dragon's prone figure vanished from his sight. He turned at once. Where the dragon had lain, he saw someone he recognized. A slender woman with long, dark hair. Her pale skin and lithe frame. Meeting her eyes sparked a chilling sensation within him. “So, you were here, too.” She was the woman who had driven him to the brink at Mount Maeryong. With one hand, she hoisted the fallen dragon, and with the other, she lifted the unconscious form of Yarang. Her intentions were clear—she meant to escape. “You really think I’d let you go?” Determined not to let her get away, he hurled his trident. Yet unpredictably, the woman deftly flicked her wrist, a sword materializing in her hand. The blade deflected the trident’s trajectory, causing it to veer off-course and soar upwards into the sky. Whoosh—! The weapon detonated in the darkened heavens, its intense energy rippling through the wide expanse. And with a strange tearing sound, the dimension behind the woman opened—she escaped into the rift before his clutches could close upon her. Smack—! Seconds too late, his hand grasped only at the now-sealed void. "Damn it." He clenched his teeth in frustration. Despite his elevated stature, he had failed to obliterate his threats. "If my master learns of this, there will be fury indeed." He clenched his fists. Would it be better to pursue and finish them off? It seemed the right course—to track them down and eliminate them. "…No." He shook his head. Rather than chasing phantoms with unknown whereabouts, a task of greater importance lay ahead. "I must head to Huasan first." Following the Taechon’s directive: once ascended to the vessel's state, proceed to a place called Huasan. Thus, there stood a task— "Devour the hidden treasure of the Man Gye.” To seize the intention left by his master, hidden there.
