Volume 5 Chapter 0083 The Throne of the Devil's Emperor - I, The Dragon Overlord
In the very center of the "Sleeping Dragon Temple," a dragon egg, adorned with intricate runes, lay pulsing with life. The powerful thumping of a heart echoed within it, heralding the emergence of a new life. Louie refrained from using divine power to hasten the dragon egg's development further. For Patricia, the laying of such an egg was already a result of acceleration. As a former Earthling, Louie felt that children born through such means seemed more like creations rather than natural births, a notion he wasn't fond of. Had it not been necessary for Patricia to quickly ascend to divinity and manage the affairs of the Underworld, Louie wouldn't have resorted to such measures. Now that the egg had been laid, he decided to let nature take its course. Tanarra, the Sword of Dawn, looked towards her deity, her mouth opening as though she intended to speak. However, before the angel could say anything, Louie said, "…Patricia has a duty, which is why I acted thus. As for you, let nature run its course; this too is demanded by the divine domain of life I oversee. No life should be desecrated." "I will follow your orders, my lord," Tanarra responded without hesitation. Kneeling, she pressed her forehead to the ground in reverence. "Then, Patricia, return to the material plane, back to your city of Deathsnot, and prepare for your ascension. If you fail, I will find another suitable candidate," Louie stated with the coldness typical of deities. To gods, only true deities were considered equals. Those unfortunate enough to fail in their divine pursuits would not even be remembered by the gods. "Yes, Lord Louie," Patricia replied, bowing her head. Before leaving, she glanced instinctively at the dragon egg, brimming with the essence of both life and death. Seeing this, Louie chuckled softly. "…When she is born, if you have ascended, I will send her to the Underworld for you to mentor." Though Patricia was now a demigod and Louie a true god, the dragon born from their combined bloodline would not merely be a demigod. Anything associated with 'godhood' was never simple. This new dragon, upon birth, would be at least a legendary creature, capable of challenging demigod status with maturation. However, truly becoming a demigod dragon would involve the complex process of integrating divine essence. Not all dragons were like Rosalind. With demonic lineage, Rosalind's power source extended beyond her bloodline. Her strength came from the abyss, and with the abyss's support, she could harness demigod power within her domain and even wield a pseudo-divine spark. This power was confined to the abyss; leaving it would strip her of this gift temporarily. With Louie's assurance, Patricia suppressed emotions long dormant for a millennium, bowing respectfully as she departed. Following Patricia's exit, Louie sat regally on his throne, contemplating his next moves. ... The Baator Hell, also known as the Nine Hells, connects to the Abyss, serving as the devils' domain and homeland. Devils are a highly lawful race, adhering strictly to hierarchy and order, contrasting sharply with the chaos of demons. The hierarchic structure of devils includes a clear chain of loyalty, where even the lowest-tiered devils serve a superior, all the way up to the Nine terrifying archdevils. Souls function as the currency among devils. Every devil's progression demands a soul as an energy source. Many mortals, deceived or worshipping devils, find their souls transported to this hell after death, becoming commodities, or, with immense luck, transforming into powerful devils themselves. The gods in the Underworld vigilantly oppose these soul-coveting devils. Numerous devils habitually sneak into the Underworld to abduct the souls of divine followers, converting them into infernal petitioners and returning with them to hell. Petitioners are considered the most valuable assets among devils. Devils are exceptionally cunning creatures yet adhere strictly to rules; their dealings are governed by contracts filled with deceits, unlike the forceful plundering of demons. Those who trade with devils fare worse, often swindled out of their very souls. Of course, there are shrewd mortals crafty enough to outwit devils, ensnaring them as servants through cunning. This mutual deception is not uncommon. Devils primarily target the greedy, using gold, precious metals, and jewels to entrap humans into selling their souls. A notorious jest among devils mocks how cheaply humans barter their souls. Their ordered society teems with treacherous political intrigues, where 'lawful' plots and insurrections are routine. Every devil schemes ascension by overthrowing superiors legitimately, striving for advancement. While hell has nine layers, the first eight archdevils owe allegiance to the ruler of the ninth layer, Asmodeus, the King of Devils. His origin traces back to the early chaotic times of the world's creation, amidst the conflicts of ancient gods wielding divine authority and the birth of the Abyss. Endless were the demons of the Abyss, a plane tied to the Serpent of Chaos. Even the oldest gods, holders of divine authority, could not eradicate it. The world's binary nature of order and chaos, in part, embodied the Serpent of Chaos's power. Amidst this, the ancient gods, while warring amongst themselves, also contended with demons sowing chaos. In response, they created a formidable divine servitor, the world's first angel—Asmodeus. Serving all ancient gods, Asmodeus led armies against the demons to prevent the world's descent into chaos, allowing deities to pursue their interminable warfare. After countless epochs of slaughter, the world transitioned from primordial chaos to the current San Soliel, with ancient gods losing their divine authority, becoming deities reliant on faith. Those ancient deities who couldn't adapt mostly perished. During this era, Asmodeus, once a benevolent lawful angel, succumbed to corruption, transforming into a devil. He absorbed the dying divine flames of many gods, gaining power as he fell into hell. In hell, perhaps his duty lingered; as the Devil King, he continued his eternal war against demons until the world's end, spanning millions of years. Now, eight archdevils gathered, each wary and distrustful even among themselves, for during the Age of Calamity, the Devil's Uncrowned King fell. The hell was left kingless, with each archdevil vying for the supreme throne!
