[Volume 4]: Chapter 50 - A Sweet Girl Won’t Be Fooled By The Villainess
After being comforted by Baron Amelia, Ifia quickly picked herself up. However, the incident where Qinina tricked her into ghostwriting gave Ifia a clear realization. Despite her confidence in her abilities, she acknowledged that her talent for creative writing was not suitable for this job but rather for a different professional field. So, when she returned to the office, Ifia accepted the fact. As Baron Amelia's assistant, if she couldn't handle documents, all that was left was to serve tea. Following this, Amelia didn't leave Ifia to sit in the corner but instead moved her desk closer, assigning Ifia the task of organizing folders, which required little technical expertise and was quite easy to accomplish. Yet, since Amelia's desk was far from other people, they assumed Ifia was helping with the documents. This made Stef, holding a handkerchief, enviously wistful. The Baroness may have been concerned about interns being bullied, hence her gentle arrangement of Ifia by her side. Oh, how kind Baroness is—she must be an angel! Anyone who spreads rumors about her coldness must be lying! With this belief in mind, Stef made it a point to follow Ifia to the cafeteria at lunchtime and take care of the intern to reassure the Baroness. Therefore, the first step was to make the intern feel the warmth of her office colleagues and break free from her solitary state. "Hello, Ifia, I'm Yeon Da Stef, we're colleagues in the same department." Hearing Stef's sudden self-introduction, Ifia was surprised but quickly sensed the other's goodwill, which made her nod with joy. Indeed, there are many good people in this world. "Hello, Stef, nice to meet you!" "Although it may be presumptuous, Ifia, can I have lunch with you?" Of course, Ifia would not refuse Stef's kind invitation. After ordering a popular meal and finding a table, Stef noticed how cute the new intern was. Unlike Baroness Amelia's sharp and bright demeanor, Ifia appeared harmless, like a soft little creature. Her big watery black eyes, shining like obsidian, sparked a protective instinct, making you want to shield her. Oh, how wicked of Qinina to bully such an adorable girl! Stef always liked attractive people, and now, seeing Ifia's extremely high attractiveness, she couldn't help but release waves of goodwill and use humorous and interesting words, gradually making Ifia relax. Originally, due to encountering many villains recently, Ifia had subconsciously become cautious. She had been reluctant to trust anyone easily and, upon careful observation, she found Stef to be a good person. Thus, Ifia, the naive girl who could be easily deceived, felt at ease. After a pleasant lunch, Ifia made her first friend, Stef. She remained in a cheerful mood until she returned to the office to arrange the documents. Her constant cheerful disposition caused Amelia, who was paying close attention, to raise her eyebrows. She had expected the little one to feel down for a while, but instead, her disposition had quickly adjusted, and now there was no trace of gloom. Seeing this, Amelia withdrew her gaze and continued working. Since Ifia wanted to keep her identity hidden, she could only reduce the frequency of her scrutiny to prevent others from noticing. However, that was only superficial. Regardless of Amelia's thoughts, after tidying up the desk, Ifia was somewhat idle. She began sneakily observing others, noticing everyone was diligently working with no time even for a drink of water. This made Ifia secretly marvel. Amelia wasn't a tyrant. Her colleagues were just too engrossed in their work! Lost in her thoughts about how fortunate she was not to work as hard as them, Ifia suddenly caught sight of a figure moving in the nearby tea room reflected on the glass. Ah, the scent of gossip! Eyes brightening, Ifia glanced at Amelia, who was focused on work, and then silently got up from her seat, pretending to hold a cup of water and went to the tea room. After opening and closing the tea room door, listening to the chattering of colleagues, Ifia realized her previous judgment was wrong. Not everyone was working fanatically; some were slacking off just like her. Stef was also in the tea room and upon seeing Ifia, she waved affectionately. Her friendly gesture clearly indicated their good relationship. Due to the slanderous incident involving Qinina, the others felt sympathetic towards the intern. Without any interest conflicts, they maintained a friendly attitude, greeting Ifia with smiles, then resumed their previous conversation. "The performance evaluation for this year is about to start. I wonder if anyone in our department will get a recommendation from the supervisor?" "Recommendation? Ever since Baroness joined this department, supervisor recommendations have become rare!" "Hmm, one should be optimistic about the future!" "Forget it, it's hopeless." As Ifia didn't like the bitterness of coffee, she picked up a cup and filled it with hot water, then stood silently on the side, listening to her colleagues' sighs about Baroness Amelia's name and supervisor recommendations. Seeming to realize that Ifia had just arrived and didn't know the situation, Stef quietly explained to her, "Each department undergoes performance evaluations to select the most outstanding individuals and offer rewards. Additionally, if someone receives a supervisor recommendation, they will be rewarded by His Majesty the King, and promotion and raise won't be an issue. However, getting a supervisor recommendation is difficult. It requires the department supervisor's seal in the employee ID." Stef's explanation helped Ifia understand, and she nodded in response. The discussion amongst the others became more intense. "In five days, the performance evaluation will begin. Should we make a bet to see if anyone will get one this year?" "Do we need to bet on this?" "Maybe there will be an exception!" "Alright, I bet that no one will get a recommendation from Baroness, and my wager is a new bracelet from Balisse." Stef, just having briefed the intern, enthusiastically joined the betting, and even dared to directly stake her bet. Her enthusiasm ignited the others, and they too followed suit. "I also bet that no one will receive a recommendation from Baroness, and my wager is this gemstone ring." "Well, since you're all betting on no one succeeding, I'll go in the opposite direction. My bet is a box of the Tarik Kingdom's collector's edition coffee, which I managed to get two boxes of with great difficulty!" Witnessing everyone's excitement, Ifia's eyes lit up. She wanted to join in the bet!
