I’m Not Being a Saint Anymore!, A Girl Can’t Find the Evil God in Her Textbook, Fleet Girl Eastern Cathay and State's Time Travel Volume Two 26~Deadlock Author: Han Tang Returns Updated: 2025/5/8 20:30:01 Word Count: 4221 After paying homage to the goddess and the saintess, the students arrived at the banquet hall in the rear palace, a place reserved for high-ranking priests and imperial royalty from the ancient empire. To celebrate under the witness of the goddess and saintess is a symbol of honor and power. However, after the fall of the ancient empire, the rules changed over the years. This venue, once reserved only for the saintess, the pope, and members of the ancient royal family, became the annual venue for the Holy Healing Festival. Now, any student or mentor from Carrelman could enter. Lavishness and opulence are standards at any banquet hall, yet Saint Celine’s Cathedral offered Wenny a sense of sanctity infused deeply with religious essence, beyond just the visuals. The corridors were adorned with artworks in the distinct style of the ancient empire, depicting champion knights of the Dawn Church and sisters blessed by the goddess. In the center of the banquet, a fountain featuring a nun's prayer statue flowed not with water, but with nectar and wine, available for the now-adult students to drink from. Wenny typically avoided alcohol; the past Wenny might have been drawn to such fine wine, but he disliked the taste just like Aesphyra. He reckoned Aesphyra would keep her distance from these fountains tonight. Besides, tonight wasn't about drinking, even with battle-hardened instructors discreetly watching to ensure no trouble, he needed to stay cautious. After all, what if something happened? He's not the protagonist, just an NPC busy trying to get promoted. What if he inadvertently died from some unknown AOE effect?? Handling demon pillar cultists should be left to the protagonist group. With destiny on their side, what danger could they face? Given Aesphyra's recent constant reminders, Wenny felt it best to steer clear of main plot matters. What if Hakis, feeling threatened, decided to eliminate him? After entering the banquet, Wenny's first priority was to secure a good seat, paying little attention to the principal's clichés on stage. After the principal's speech, it was Mirexia's turn to speak as the student council president. Wenny finally got to see Mirexia today. Mirexia was dressed quite formally today. Although still in a school uniform skirt, she wore the student council president's exclusive black and deep blue uniform, adorned with the council's badge and insignia on her chest and arms. With eyes as clear and cold as an undisturbed icy lake and skin as fair as snow under the full moon, her stunning beauty combined with the dignified image of a high mountain flower and noble background made her the dream girl for countless adolescent boys. Clearly, a wrinkled old man couldn't match the popularity of a glamorous golden twin-tailed young girl like Mirexia. Her appearance attracted the gaze of many students, especially the boys, much like an idol stepping onto the stage. After all, every boy is a devoted fan of Mirexia, isn't he? Even though Mirexia's speech and the Holy Healing Festival blessings were somewhat formulaic, the effect of the same words coming from her versus from an old man was worlds apart. The audience was nearly asleep during the old principal’s speech, but with Mirexia's, everyone was likely able to write a rich reflection afterward, including comments about how white and large the speeches might keep one entertained. "The president's eyes are so beautiful, just like sapphires. Ah, I wish she would look at me with that cold, disdainful gaze." "Dude, that’s a weird fetish... Well, I don't have such inclinations, but if it's Lady Mirexia, I'd willingly endure it!" "Taking liberties, aren't you?" Young boys in their ignorant youth couldn’t help but dream, just like the few seated next to Wenny who were quietly discussing, clearly being close friends making harmless jokes as long as no outsiders overheard. Honestly, given Mirexia's nature, the scenarios they fantasized about were impossible. "Truly the most dazzling jewel in the Camilla crown. If I could speak to Lady Mirexia in this life—or no, even if she looked at me, just once with those eyes, I'd be satisfied!" Overhearing the admirers' reverent chatter about Mirexia prompted Wenny to silence. Recalling his recent visit to Mirexia's dorm, he thought that if this were leaked, not only would Mirexia face social death, but he too might one day be killed by a stray locked brick or encounter other 'accidents', even if he evaded the brick. It seemed somewhat similar to a past-life idol phenomenon, indeed trending in that direction. After the speech ended, Mirexia honored the goddess statue outside the court with a prayer and wished for the smoothness of the Holy Healing Festival, leaving the stage under the collective gaze of the crowd. Once the principal announced the end of standing in place and allowed everyone to be seated, Wenny immediately headed to the spot he’d scoped out earlier, where the dishes were to his liking. Shikondell, like a little tail, followed him, eagerly grabbing the seat beside Wenny as if fearing someone else might take it. She clutched her pants nervously and glanced around. "Wenny, why does the atmosphere seem off?" Shikondell asked, her anxiety clear as she watched Wenny pile his plate with food. "What do you mean by off? Everything feels just right to me; it's just your imagination. Better start eating, or you might end up with only leftovers," Wenny thought. Odd how this moon elf girl’s intuition is always so sharp, yet he maintained a nonchalant appearance, feigning ignorance about what was to come. His peripheral vision caught Mirexia elegantly stepping down from the platform, proceeding to pray before the Dawn Shrine until the banquet concluded. During this time, Mirexia would arguably be alone. This provided an excellent opportunity for the [Bronze Blood] faction to make a move. However, if [Bronze Blood] dared reach out this time, they’d be in big trouble. Zoe, who had been recruited, was likely working with the school to draw [Bronze Blood] into a trap. This implied that the chapel might currently be hiding agents planted by [Bronze Blood]. They wouldn't be able to enter the rear banquet hall, though, as the school had planned this event for mentors and students only, barring all others from entering. Therefore, even if something were to happen, as long as he stayed in the rear hall with the main cohort of students, he'd be safe. "Ah! Sorry, I bumped into you." "No worries, it's fine." The exchange beside him caught Wenny's attention—a male student seemed to have accidentally bumped into another. Wenny instinctively glanced over, his eyes narrowing as his pupils dilated. He quickly rubbed his eyes and focused again on the male student's shoulder. Just now, the male student who accidentally bumped into someone instinctively grabbed the garment on the shoulder of the male student he collided with, trying to steady himself to avoid falling, which caused the garment on the bumped student's shoulder to be pulled aside slightly. Wenny, turning his gaze to the interaction beside him, noticed a faint indistinct dark-red mark on the bumped student's shoulder! However, when Wenny blinked to get a clearer look, the bumped student had already adjusted his garment smoothly, showing no concern. The student who bumped into him didn't seem to notice anything amiss either, apologizing repeatedly before leaving. Wenny stayed silent, glancing around to see everyone was preoccupied with their own activities, and nobody had noticed the encounter. Did he see it wrong? The mark was so faint that Wenny couldn't be sure it was really there. What if it was just a trick of his eyes, or perhaps the guy had a superficial injury recently, leaving a reddish mark on the skin? Or could it be a tattoo? Carrelman Academy didn't have strict rules against students getting tattoos. It was a matter of personal choice, but hardly anyone chose to get them, though personal preferences weren’t out of the question. Wenny suddenly recalled something Mirexia had mentioned in their previous discussions. No way, could it be true? Was this just his delusion? It seemed improbable for a student actually enrolled to bear such marks. After all, Carrelman Academy conducted rigorous screenings on enrolling students, scrutinizing family backgrounds and the family's history up to three generations to ensure no connections to demonic cults. Any ties would be grounds for rejection. Admitting a demon cultist into Carrelman Academy was downright unbelievable. ———————— During the Holy Healing Festival in the front hall, a stationed attendant quietly left the scene. He made his way to the back garden, extracted a small black bag from a dense flowerbed, and took out a vial of potion and a mask, smearing the potion on the mask. After putting it on, his figure slowly disappeared into the unnoticed corner of the garden. Without being observed, he moved toward the higher bridge connecting to another building. This was the exact time Carrelman Academy's combat instructors were changing shifts, their weakest moment. Reaching the rooftop, with the wind howling, he crossed the bridge linking the rear hall and central great hall unobstructed, arriving at the tightly shut magical floating hall's entrance. The place was deserted. The attendant mused, taking out a bell he had prepared in advance, gently shaking it. Miraculously, the bell made no sound, adding to the already intensified wind noise, no other noise disturbed the scene. For a long time, a vague silhouette began to manifest before the Dawn Shrine—a figure shrouded in a black cloak and wearing a mask, resembling a young girl. The cloaked girl supported a blonde girl beside her, the latter seeming to be unconscious. The invisibility potion granted by Eurnes only took effect when applied to a mask made from specific materials. Otherwise, it was just an ordinary undetectable potion. Wearing such a mask allowed the wearer to completely hide their presence, entering a state of invisibility while being able to bring others into the state as well. Seeing the figure deliberately reveal themselves from invisibility, the attendant waited awhile, ensuring there were no disturbances around before lifting his own invisibility. "I've brought her." The cloaked girl, still supporting the blonde, said once the figure materialized. Her voice, distorted by the mask, was indiscernible in terms of gender or accent, yet the anxiety beneath her steady tone was apparent, a struggle to maintain composure. "Yes, as we agreed," the man nodded calmly. "Are you the one who's been contacting me?" Zoe couldn't help but ask. "What, trying to get info from me?" The man scoffed. "No, just that, as promised, my brother..." Zoe trailed off. "I don't have the authority to answer you, but I'll report your request to the priests," the man offered no clear resolution. Hearing this stalling tactic, Zoe bit her lip beneath the mask. Just as Wenny had mentioned, "[Bronze Blood]" consistently strung her along, refusing to return her hostage while offering hope to keep her working for them. Furthermore, "[Bronze Blood]" didn't fear her betrayal. Every human nation, even many other races, severely punished cultists and their allies. Discovery meant death. Anyone found associated with demon cults faced permanent exposure risks, with no room to hide such an identity. Apart from cultists, who would tolerate such a traitor? These individuals had no place in human lands, condemned to eternal allegiance to the demon pillars. Public exposure of their information meant they'd become dead in every sense. Hence, such people were easy to manipulate and had little choice but to remain loyal. People driven by desires were often most afraid of death. "But this wasn't the agreement. You promised that once I gained control over Mirexia, you'd return my brother and keep my secret, right?" Zoe couldn't suppress her emotions any longer. "Don't ask me, I'm just the contact. I can only pass your concerns upward and await instructions." The man's indifference acknowledged Zoe's predicament—she was irrevocably bound to them. Especially now. After involving herself in the kidnapping of the Princess of Carmela Kingdom, her risk in betraying them put her first in line for execution. "....." "You have no other choice, classmate, only we can help or save you now." The man vigilantly watched Zoe's demeanor, noting her mounting silence despite the initial agitation. He understood well how they had manipulated her into this situation, but now only they could offer any means of escape. If her identity were revealed, she'd become the target of all. Zoe realized only now, from the outset, she had walked into a deadlock. "Enough talking, let's not waste anymore time. Hand over the princess to me. Everyone else is ready." With that, the man signaled to Zoe. 2025/05/12/21/26 Share this book to: Share on Sina Weibo, QQ Zone, QQ Friends, Baidu Tieba, Tencent Weibo, Baidu Collection, Baidu New Homepage, Copy URL Vote for Recommendations Previous Chapter ← Table of Contents → Next Chapter Bookmark New Book Recommendations: How Could the Villainous Young Master possibly be the Saint?, System!
