144.7 Volume 6 Bookwalker SS part 2 - Story About Buying My Classmate Once A Week
Our Missing Soda and Orange Juice - part 2 (Sendai-san PoV) After the lecture ended, I left the university immediately. I didn't sprint out, but I was quick to catch my train. After getting off at my usual stop, I exited the station a bit faster than usual and pulled out my smartphone from my bag. 'Finished shopping?' I messaged Miyagi, who said she was going to buy soda and orange juice, and she replied, 'I'm on my way. I'm almost at the supermarket,' which prompted me to hastily send what I wanted to say most. 'Okay, wait in front of the store.' 'Why?' 'Just because.' 'But I'm almost there. I can just start shopping.' 'Wait for five minutes. Just five minutes.' Miyagi didn't reply. Likely, the time limit was exactly five minutes, as I had mentioned in my message. If Miyagi didn't intend to wait, she would've said something like "No" or "I won't wait," so I believed she would wait for those five minutes. Surely, she was timing it, and once five minutes passed, she would no longer be in front of the store. There was no guarantee she'd be inside either. There's a chance that she might just leave without buying anything or go to another supermarket in order to avoid me. "Should I run?" I told Miyagi to wait for five minutes, but walking from here to the supermarket in that time was difficult. I really would have liked a bit more time, but I felt like if I said ten minutes to Miyagi, she wouldn't wait, so I went with five. I increased my walking speed and broke into a run. The cityscape blurred past. I wasn't running hard enough to call it a sprint, so I wasn't out of breath. Five minutes. I just needed to reach the supermarket while Miyagi was still waiting. I moved my legs faster. The skirt made it a little difficult to run. I should have worn denim pants to university like Miyagi. In the midst of such regrets, I arrived in front of the supermarket and saw Miyagi. "...Why did you come?" She greeted me with a grumpy voice. "Why not? Let's shop together." "It's just soda and orange juice, and a few more things." "Soda and orange juice are heavy. It's better if we carry them together." Forcing a smile, I looked at Miyagi, who replied coldly, "Let's hurry up and buy what we need and go home." We entered the supermarket together, placing a basket onto a cart. Then, we began placing the things we wanted to buy into the basket. Vegetables and meat that could be used as side dishes for dinner. Bread for breakfast. Once we put the soda and orange juice in the basket, Miyagi moved to head towards the register. She was truly indifferent. Even when Miyagi goes shopping, she just hunts down what she came for, tosses it in the basket, and tries to head straight home. Enjoying her time shopping? That feeling didn’t exist in her at all. She should take a little detour now and then, wander off the path, look at things that weren’t on her list. "Miyagi, wait a second. I want to check this side too." I grabbed her arm as she pushed the cart toward the finish line - the register. "We've got everything we need." "Come on, just a little bit more." "You can buy that 'little bit' tomorrow, Sendai-san." "Since it's just a little bit, today is fine, right?" "What are you planning to buy anyway?" Apparently giving up on continuing this pointless argument, Miyagi asked begrudgingly. I raised the corners of my mouth and looking at her. "Ingredients for stew." I answered brightly, and Miyagi let out a sigh. Even without looking closely, I could see her brows furrowing. "...What if I say I don't want to eat it?" Though her voice was low, I replied cheerfully. "Let's eat." "Sendai-san, you're being so selfish." "I'll make it delicious." It wasn’t that I had any particular craving for stew. But the longer the road to the finish line, the better. So I pulled Miyagi along, steering her away from the path that led straight to the registers.
