441.5? - Translator's Thoughts - I’m an Infinite Regressor, But I’ve Got Stories to Tell
So that was The Tales of an Infinite Regressor. Of course, this is not the end. There are still the side stories. In this chapter, I'm going to explain a bit about their concept for those who didn't fully understand chapter 441. Just a disclaimer, what I'm about to explain is my theory on how they work. This theory is subjective and could be completely wrong if I have misinterpreted the translations. So let's start with what Oh Dok-seo explained on chapter 441. The Inunaki Tunnel had greeted the Undertaker with graffiti on its walls, saying: - Welcome back. It's your 7th time already? It was an eerie greeting. At that moment, the encounters with the Inunaki Tunnel should have been only ‘6 times.’ The Undertaker dismissed it as the run with 'Utopia.' But Oh Dok-seo points out that the timelines don't match. 'Utopia' happened during the 173rd run when the Undertaker tackled Inunaki Tunnel during the 146th run. The conclusion is there are more cycles that the Undertaker had 'forgotten'. Why and how did the Undertaker forget these cycles? Didn't he have 'Complete Memory?' There are three scenarios that could mess with the Undertaker's Complete Memory. - Infinite Void - Yo-hwa - The Goddess Nut - Hecate - Losing the Complete Memory ability - Udumbara The first is not possible since that requires the Undertaker's consent. The second also requires consent. And the third, well, why would he do that? There is a reason why the Undertaker would voluntarily infect himself with Udumbara, to commit suicide. He would lose his regression abilities, dying for real. But if that happened, why did we see the ending? Why did the world regress? As Oh Dok-seo had pointed out, the Undertaker is actually a 'false regressor.' The true regressor is actually Emit Schopenhauer, which had already died in the beginning. Therefore, the fact that the world would regress was ‘fixed.’ So even if the Undertaker gave up completely, got infected by Udumbara, and lost all memory of that particular cycle, the world will always regress. But, as Undertaker points out, he would lose all his other abilities too. Time Seal, Infinite Regression, Complete Memory, Telepathy, Resume. Because his regression ability is the ability that allows him to remember the previous cycle. And his Complete Memory ability as a complement. My interpretation is that, when he loses both Complete Memory and Infinite Regression, the Undertaker will actually forget everything, and start over from the very first cycle. [A complete and total reset.] But then what about the Time Seals? Don't those persist across regression? Will the world be ruined with invisible Time Seals dotted everywhere? Well, no. The Time Seals actually come undone when the Undertaker loses that ability, freeing the subject inside. This is proven by a future side story that I'm currently translating. Then what about Emit Schopenhauer? Won't the timeline get messed up, since now he is committing suicide from the very first cycle from the perspective of the Undertaker? Well, no. Emit Schopenhauer doesn't have the Complete Memory ability. His memories will also get reset to the very first cycle. But if Emit Schopenhauer doesn't have the Complete Memory ability, how can he remember the previous cycles before the reset? My theory is that, back then, the world always regresses under the ability of the Undertaker's, not Emit Schopenhauer's. The Undertaker's Complete Memory doesn't just effect his own memory, but the real world as well. As showcased by Yo-hwa. The world regresses according to how the Undertaker remembers it to be. That is why when the Undertaker loses his abilities, the world regresses according to how Emit Schopenhauer remembers it to be, everything will be reset. But what happens now that the Undertaker has lost all of his abilities? Well, he'll get it back, because the world regressed under the ability of Emit Schopenhauer's. The Outer Gods, Nut's, and Infinite Metagame's memory of past cycles; Do-hwa cane sword; and the laptop will all disappear under Emit Schopenhauer's regression. The world and the regressors gets reset to the very first cycle. That is what it means to be a 'true regressor.' [A complete and total reset.] Do you see what Go Yuri had done now? Go Yuri hadn't just recklessly entrusted the future to Undertaker. She hadn’t just pinned her hopes on words like ‘belief’ or ‘hope.’ She planned. She devised. She designed. Thoroughly calculated, even contemplating scenarios of failure and paths of choosing to end life – she designed the world to ‘restart upon giving up.’ How kind. How noble a responsibility. And how brutal that act was. It repeats. Continuously, again and again, eternally. Until when? Until the Undertaker chooses not to select the option of [Giving up by committing suicide while being infected with Udumbara], and smoothly moves onto the next run. The ‘missing one run’ mentioned by Inunaki Tunnel signifies that at that time, the runs were entirely repeated. For Inunaki Tunnel, the difference lay between the [Undertaker who gave up] and the [one who didn’t]. However, since everything else was the same, it counted it as if there was an extra run. A complete and morally aligned "Outcome Pump." The first two minutes of this video explains what I mean by that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpBqw2sTD08 If you think my theory is wrong, or you want to help in translating, hit me up on discord. I'm on the Diurnis discord with the username "fenonen" So that's all I have to say! Probably... The rate of releases will slow down during weekdays since I have lectures. But for now, the first volume of the side stories is finished! Enjoy!
