Chapter 65 - Self-Rescue Manual of a Villainess

Chapter 065: Accident When Nan Yin entered the detection capsule, she found it to be a marvel within. The detection capsule appeared to be the size of an ordinary caravan from the outside, but the interior held the space of a normal-sized banquet hall! Nan Yin quickly conjectured that the capsules must have employed some kind of space compression technology. No wonder it is among the top twelve academies; they truly go all out. Nan Yin stood at the exit of the capsule, the automated door behind her securely shut. She did not rush to begin the detection process, instead taking the time to admire this product of superior technology. Although the interior space approximated that of a full-sized hall, half of it was taken up by a machine resembling medical examination equipment. The remaining space wasn't as vast as it initially appeared. The entirety of the room was decked out in an integrated white fabric material, with an occasional emerald hue flickering across the floor and ceiling. A number of semi-transparent blue light screens floated on both sides of the ceiling, giving the whole room a sense of futuristic aesthetic. At the heart of the room stood a transparent cylinder made of glassy substance, enclosing a silver-white crystal in its core. That, Nan Yin presumed, was the legendary psychic crystal. "Number SF6914, step forward for testing." As Nan Yin was planning to probe around the room, a gentle female voice echoed above her. Subsequently, a beautiful woman clothed in a cheongsam appeared before her. Glancing down instinctively to confirm her number, SF6914, was indeed her own, Nan Yin stepped forward, waiting for further instructions. As the woman flashed an exquisite smile, a psychic detection platform rose from in front of her, complete with an integrated chair. Gazing at the exceptional beauty before her, Nan Yin was least taken aback. This elegant woman was certainly not an instructor counseling the students of a psychic academy; instead, she was simply a virtual figure, designed to guide students throughout the test. Recognizing the woman instantly, Nan Yin, who had studied the information on the twelve academies intensively, recognized the virtual figure as the founder of the Carnales Academy, Long Yun. It was a tradition among psychic academies to adopt their founding dean as a virtual figure- meaning that the testing capsule belonged to Carnales Academy. What a turn of fate - in the original novel, both the male lead Su Xiao Yu and the female leads had their psychic abilities tested in Carnales capsules, and they eventually all enrolled there. This indicated that not long ago, or perhaps not much later, Su Xiao Yu and the female leads would also be taking their tests here. "Lucky me," She thought sarcastically, somehow entwining her fate with the lead characters once again. With a twitch at the corner of her lips, Nan Yin followed the direction of the virtual Long Yun and took a seat on the testing platform. "Young one, please place your palm on the crystal ball that will appear soon. Do not be afraid, follow your heart," the virtual Long Yun instructed, the reality of the hologram adding encouragement as if she was a real person. Despite the life-like Long Yun, Nan Yin remained unfazed. Of course, she did not attribute this to her cannon fodder aura, attracting the real attention of Long Yun towards herself. She dismissed Long Yun's words as part of a well-scripted program, applied to her as well as the thousands of candidates tested earlier. Being subjected to the gaze of a high-ranking official is a privilege only the protagonist can enjoy. A moment after Nan Yin adjusted herself appropriately, a silver crystal ball, as large as a football, sprouted in mid-air from the center of the testing platform. Staring at the crystal, identical to one from her original world, Nan Yin heaved in a deep breath and extended her hands across the crystal ball. A warm current gushed into her body, from the ball and into her veins, the instant her palm connected with it. That moment was truly a blissful one, indicative of the psychic energy from the crystal washing over her psychic gene. Yet, the serenity was short-lived. Nan Yin quickly noticed that something was amis as the warm current vanished, replaced by a bone-chilling pain, as if her marrow was being cruelly extracted from her bones! Her body trembling under the searing pain, a sweat broke across her forehead as her teeth clamped on each other, unable to bite back a groan. Ashen-faced, the virtual Long Yun instantly detected the abnormality and cast a hasty glance at her. The beautiful woman's gentle eyebrows furrowed together in a human-like manner as she manually shut down the psychic detection procedure. "SF6914, Nan Yin, what happened? Are you feeling unwell?" She asked, stepping forward with concern. "No... I'm fine. It's just that the sudden influx of power made me feel a bit uncomfortable..." Nan Yin dismissed it as a weakness, desperate to complete the procedure soon. "Do you need a break? You could rest a while before resuming." Long Yun suggested, after a contemplative pause. "No, there's no need for that. Please continue the detection." Nan Yin declined the offer with a shake of her head. The virtual Long Yun was an artificial intelligence after all and had to follow the standard operating protocols. So, three minutes later, she activated the second round of detection for Nan Yin. The same sequence ensued. There was the initial comforting warmth that was quickly overrun by an excruciating pain! Aware that her psychic gene was non-existent, Nan Yin was prepared this time around. Biting through the torment, she persisted until the end. After roughly five minutes, the detection concluded. Once the torture let up, the silver-haired girl nearly stumbled, weak and dizzy. However, her heightened consciousness somehow managed to keep her balance. She skillfully masked the ordeal, fooling the observant Long Yun beside her. "SF6914, Nan Yin, your psychic ability test has concluded. Please wait for your results." Long Yun's mellifluous voice resonated near her ear. Nan Yin nodded. Given the capabilities of the twelve great academies, instantaneous publication of result was a possibility. However, the system was designed to make the students wait for their results. It was a tacit understanding among the academies to screen out students meeting certain criteria and take necessary actions during this gap. They extended a wide range of scholarships and offers, to retain the super-talented and high-grade psychic students. They stopped short on using threats and force, considering their status. A generous scholarship was a promising offer and was more than enough for the students, without any restriction. After a breather of approximately three minutes, Nan Yin regained her composure from her previous ordeal and stepped out of the detection capsule's entrance. Once out of the detection capsule, Nan Yin composed herself completely. Aside from a slightly pale complexion, no one could tell she had been through something traumatic. "Boss!" "Nan Yin..." "Nan Yin, big sister." Stepping out of the massive entrance, she was immediately surrounded by three beautiful young girls, drawing curious glances from the crowd of waiting students and parents. "Boss, how was the psychic ability test? You look a tad unwell," Jiang Mi was the first to voice her concern. "I've taken the psychic ability test before. It wasn't uncomfortable at all, rather, it was quite pleasant," Wu Luo pitched in. "Nan Yin, since the psychic ability test is over, you should rest," Xia Yi Yi added. "Okay, okay, they say the result of the psychic ability test takes quite some time," Nan Yin waved, chuckling. "You guys should leave." ... ... ...
