9 - A Farewell to Mr. Luo

# Chapter 9 ## Previous Chapter Bookmark Shelf Management Return to Directory Next Chapter The young girl was naturally timid. Last time she got so scared she ran into someone’s arms. This time, her legs turned to jelly, and she couldn’t even stand up. Bai Fan excitedly flicked its forked tongue, feeling a great sense of accomplishment from others' fear. It indicated that he looked fierce enough and was imposing, which was a twisted kind of compliment. "Where is it?" Li Xiao Cha immediately spotted Bai Fan. Seeing such a huge python up close would turn anyone pale with fright. "Ah! Such a big snake." Li Xiao Cha was also so scared that she plopped down on her butt. After all, girls would be girls. Even the bravest would still get scared. The other girl had already tears streaming from her eyes. The two girls clung to each other in fear. However, Li Xiao Cha, being a bit braver, and very responsible, held the crying girl in her arms, pressing the sobbing girl's head against her chest to prevent her from making eye contact with Bai Fan, her face ashen. Bai Fan tilted his snake head, recalling how last time in the grand hall, he made a group of cultivators scream and shout. Now, this little girl wasn't screaming, which made him feel she was much stronger comparatively. Unable to resist, he opened his mouth and let out a series of hisses, intending to scare them further. The two girls screamed in terror, while Bai Fan silently laughed with his snake mouth, looking as terrifying as possible. In Li Xiao Cha's eyes, the gigantic python seemed poised to devour her with its gaping maw. As the fishy-smelling mouth got closer and closer, ready to swallow her, she closed her eyes in terror and heart-wrenching regret, wishing she had never sneaked out. However, a shadow passed, and Li Xiao Cha did not feel the pain she had anticipated. Curious, she opened one eye and realized that the big white snake had disappeared. She heard a commotion of rocks crashing behind her. Turning her head, she saw the white snake devouring a spiritual chicken, feathers flying everywhere, the entire chicken swallowed whole, even its feathers sliding down its throat. Li Xiao Cha swallowed hard, deeply grateful that it wasn’t her being swallowed. Bai Fan had initially intended to scare the two girls, but upon catching sight of a fat white chicken, which he knew would be delicious, he pounced without thinking and devoured it. He hadn’t eaten anything since arriving at the Qingxu Sect a day ago, and he was starving. If it wasn’t forbidden to eat humans, he might have considered eating grass. After consuming the spiritual chicken, Bai Fan still felt hungry. Without the small medicinal pellets, it was hard to feel full. Considering he needed to strengthen his physique, the demand for food would only increase, and those small pellets were not nutritious enough. Smacking his snake mouth, he remembered the two terrified girls. The girls saw Bai Fan turn his head toward them and felt utter despair, realizing he swallowed things whole without a trace. "Wait a moment!" The girl named Li Xiao Cha screamed, extending her hand in front of her and speaking in one breath without stopping for air. "Don't eat us. We know where to find more food. I can take you there right now." Bai Fan paused, surprised. He thought, how did this girl understand my thoughts so well? She knew he was hungry and quickly nodded. Li Xiao Cha, seeing that Bai Fan understood human speech, breathed a sigh of relief and reached out to pull the still-sitting Li Min to her feet, brushing off the dust. The two girls led the way, with Bai Fan following behind, looking around curiously. This was a place Bai Fan had never been to before, and the path was quite secluded. After winding through various turns, they finally arrived. There stood a sign by the roadside with the words "Dining Hall" inscribed on it. Bai Fan suddenly realized that this was the main cafeteria of the Qingxu Sect. The two girls didn't take him through the front entrance but crawled through the underbrush. When they emerged, Bai Fan saw it was a chicken coop housing the same kind of large white chickens he just ate. "This is the chicken coop of the dining hall. It's full of spiritual chickens meant for the pot at night. If you eat some, no one will notice." Li Xiao Cha took a deep breath, looked around to make sure no one was there, and then felt at ease. Bai Fan, seeing countless white chickens, could no longer hear what the girl was saying. He dove into the coop, biting into a chicken and swallowing it whole, finally unleashing the beastly nature that had been suppressed for decades. Li Xiao Cha watched as the chickens screamed, one by one being swallowed by Bai Fan. She felt faint, and both she and Li Min took turns keeping watch, fearing someone from the dining hall would catch them. Bai Fan, on the other hand, was devouring frenziedly, as if he hadn't eaten in hundreds of years, his golden snake eyes tinged with a faint red. The chaos was indescribable. With Bai Fan's white scales blending among the white spiritual chickens, only an occasional flash of his tail was visible. After satiating his hunger, Bai Fan's previously slender body was now bloated, like a balloon inflated to its limit. Li Xiao Cha was astonished, almost unable to believe it. This giant white snake had eaten half of the spirit chickens here, and she could even see a satisfied expression on the snake's face. As Bai Fan wriggled and attempted to retrace his path, he found that his body, now enlarged from the meal, couldn't fit through the originally tight passage. Li Xiao Cha, with keen ears, quickly heard someone from the dining hall coming to catch chickens. Hastily, she approached to help Bai Fan squeeze through, but a five or six-year-old girl didn’t have the strength. Seeing this, Li Min joined in, but it was like ants trying to push a tree; Bai Fan didn't budge. Being a snake, Bai Fan had sharp hearing. He actually heard the approaching footsteps before the two girls and would have continued eating if not for that. He never imagined that his body would grow so large from overeating that he couldn't fit out. For the first time in decades, he felt flustered, desperately trying to wiggle his way out. The footsteps grew closer, and they could even hear people talking. Knowing they couldn’t help, the two girls flipped out and ran away together, leaving Bai Fan stuck there, unable to go in or out. Bai Fan was panic-stricken. How could those two girls leave him like this? Right then, two kitchen helpers, chatting and laughing, approached, each with a large, glinting butcher knife at their waist. Upon entering the chicken coop and seeing how many spirit chickens were missing, one of them exclaimed, "Senior Brother, why are there so many fewer spirit chickens? Did we have a banquet recently?" "Impossible. I was here just yesterday, and there were far more chickens than this." One of them spotted Bai Fan's tail stuck due to overfeeding and immediately realized this was the chicken thief. “Senior Brother, quick, call people over! The chicken thief is actually a giant snake!” The other disciple immediately ran out to call for help, not forgetting to shout, "You stay here and keep an eye on the snake. I'll be back soon with backup." The remaining disciple nodded, quickly taking out his butcher knife and, gathering his courage, he approached. Though he was a disciple of the Qingxu Sect, he had no real skills due to lack of talent and was relegated to being a kitchen helper, the lowest rank among disciples, not even permitted to wear the ordinary disciple's blue robe. Seeing the large snake stuck due to overeating and unable to move, he sighed in relief, and tentatively slashed at the snake's body with his knife. To his shock, the knife couldn't cut through, even chipping the blade. "Oh no, this giant snake has turned into a spirit beast." Bai Fan, now stuck, suddenly felt a sharp pain as the knife struck, though it didn’t draw blood, the blow hurt immensely. Angry, he waved his tail, kicking up a storm of dust. The sweep of his tail was like a steel shield; if the kitchen helper got hit, he would likely cough up liters of blood. Hurriedly dodging, Bai Fan would've been sweating bullets if he had a forehead. They even tried to cut him—thankfully his skin was thick, otherwise, he might have lost a chunk of his tail. “Hiss hiss.” Bai Fan pushed forward with all his might, the enclosure creaking as if it might collapse. "Junior Brother, help is coming! Is the giant snake still there?" "Yes, yes, yes! Come quickly; this wall is about to be torn down by it." Hearing the approaching footsteps, Bai Fan deeply regretted his actions. He should’ve known better than to be so gluttonous. Now he couldn’t even escape after eating so much. A group of people came in, armed, and began pounding on Bai Fan, causing him great pain. Several Qingxu Sect disciples grabbed his tail and yanked, finally managing to pull him out. "Oh my heavens, this isn't a snake spirit; it's a snake demon." Bai Fan opened his mouth wide towards the surrounding disciples, issuing a warning to those who wanted to approach while deliberating on how to escape. Seeing more and more people gathering, Bai Fan began to doubt if he had any chance to flee. Resigned, he thought if escape were impossible, he would rather fight tooth and nail. Just then, a disciple from the back recognized Bai Fan. Upon closer inspection, he realized that this was the same white snake that accompanied the Lesser Clan Master earlier today. He had encountered them on the road this morning. If they were to kill this snake demon now, the Lesser Clan Master would definitely give them trouble later. "Wait, stop! Don't hit it. Hold your hands!" The disciple hurriedly called out, restraining the others from advancing. "Stop! This snake demon belongs to the Lesser Clan Master." Upon hearing this, the disciples were dumbfounded. How did a chicken thief suddenly become the Lesser Clan Master’s pet? The calmer disciples, having recollected themselves, began pointing at Bai Fan in realization. "I remember now, this is the spirit beast that the Lesser Clan Master brought today." Seeing the sudden halt in attacks, Bai Fan roared in anger, opening his mouth wide. He was furious; anyone would be after being ganged up on without a reason. Fortunately, Bai Fan had thick skin and could endure the beating; otherwise, anyone else would have perished already. "What should we do now?" Someone asked nervously, glancing cautiously at Bai Fan. The disciple who spoke earlier quickly suggested, "I'll fetch the Martial Uncle. You all make sure it doesn't escape. After all, with so many chickens missing, we can't afford to take the blame for this." ## Previous Chapter Directory Next Chapter Main Page Computer Version Bookshelf Novel Directory Popular Novels
