11(1) - A Farewell to Mr. Luo
## Chapter 11 The young worker, feeling immensely proud upon hearing the news, couldn't help but show his satisfaction. Although the work at Qingxu Sect was laborious, it was still much more prestigious than ordinary life. “Not bad. How is the clan doing now? How are my parents?” Li Lin, the young worker, answered with contentment. Having come to Qingxu Sect, it was rare to get a chance to descend the mountain. Now that he met a familiar face, he naturally wanted to inquire about his family. “The clan is well; your parents are also fine, and your younger brother is quite promising.” Hearing this put Li Lin's heart at ease. He nodded and then patted the cage containing the spiritual chicken. “This is the spiritual chicken that the sect has entrusted you to sell. Be careful with it. The number of spiritual chickens has significantly decreased lately, so make sure nothing goes wrong.” As he spoke, Li Lin glanced at Bai Fan, the culprit responsible for the dwindling chickens, who was standing nearby. Every day, he kept a vigilant eye on Bai Fan, fearing the spiritual chickens would be stolen again. Bai Fan hissed twice and then stood upright, reaching nearly the height of a person, which terrified the ordinary people around him. “This, this... is a serpent demon?” One person pointed at Bai Fan with a trembling hand. “You don't need to fear it. It’s the beast of the Young Sect Master. It’s being punished by following me now.” “Oh, it’s the Young Sect Master's beast.” The group of people stepped back a bit in fear, maintaining a respectful distance from Bai Fan, likely due to the beast’s association with the Young Sect Master. Bai Fan paid no further attention and started climbing the rear mountain. With the delivery complete, it was time to head back for a bath. Bai Fan swiftly ran to a spiritual spring in the rear mountain of Qingxu Sect and submerged himself in it. The water in the spring was crystal clear, and other disciples dared not disturb it, leaving only Bai Fan bold enough to bathe there. For Bai Fan, the spring was a perfect place to relieve fatigue. Soaking for several hours made the entire snake feel inexplicably comfortable. From his tail to his forked tongue, Bai Fan felt many of his previously blocked meridians opening, allowing him to sense the spiritual energy in the spring more acutely. Not taking advantage of such a benefit was never Bai Fan's style. Before coming to Qingxu Sect, Bai Fan had no sense of spiritual energy. He only thought the air here was good. Now, after eating some spiritual chickens and bathing in the spring, his entire body had grown much stronger, and his white scales were more dazzling, making Bai Fan immensely pleased with himself. Despite his large snake body, it felt inexplicably lighter, capable of smashing rocks with a single lash of his tail. Unknowingly, Bai Fan had entered the first stage of a demonic cultivation technique known as 'Snake Transformation.' Unlike human cultivators’ need for profound understanding, demon cultivation was natural for Bai Fan's physical form, progressing effortlessly. Realizing that enjoyment could also lead to cultivating a technique, Bai Fan mused that this cultivation technique was too incredible. Perhaps Li Liansheng couldn’t match this speed. Floating at the bottom of the spring with only his nostrils above water, Bai Fan hid in the shadows, basking in the benefits of the spiritual spring. If he soaked here every day, it wouldn’t feel the same as it did now. However, Bai Fan spent most of his days doing hard labor in the kitchen, tiring himself out with multiple trips up and down the mountain. Unlike humans, snakes don’t sweat, but the repeated stretching of his muscles during crawling served as a form of physical training. This was an unforeseen result. In the spiritual spring, Bai Fan listlessly blew bubbles. He wanted to find Li Liansheng, but Liansheng was always beside that old man, and with the kitchen being quite isolated, there were even fewer opportunities. Staring up at the green leaves above, Bai Fan felt unlucky. The two young girls who had brought him to steal the spiritual chickens hadn’t appeared since. Even at the large dining hall, they were nowhere to be seen. He intended to settle scores with them but couldn’t find them anymore. Bai Fan wondered if they had started a fasting regimen already. Only cultivators who had reached the Foundation Establishment stage could do that, but those two girls were so young, it seemed impossible. With his limited snake brain, Bai Fan couldn’t figure out the reasoning. So, he could only retreat to the spiritual spring to soak slowly. His snake eyes fixed on the sky's blue, with white clouds softly drifting by. A breeze rustled the tree leaves, casting shimmering patterns on the water’s surface. “Hiss hiss.” Bai Fan lazily flicked his tongue. This time of day was the most comfortable. In the kitchen, without a place to stay, he slept with the sky as his blanket and the ground as his bed. Qingxu Sect basically treated him like a free-range animal. Just as Bai Fan was about to doze off, two beams of light streaked across the sky, indicating figures flying on swords. People with such ability were rare, even at Qingxu Sect. Curious, Bai Fan peeked out of the water, the clear spring water sliding off his smooth scales. Those flying were likely cultivators from an upper sect. Regarding the upper sect, Bai Fan knew little, only that it was a major cultivation sect, often mentioned by the gossipy young workers. Each visit from the upper sect signaled important events. The last time they had visited was the night Bai Fan stole the chickens. Now they had come again after a short interval. However, Bai Fan didn’t care much and quickly retreated into the water again, floating leisurely. Big matters were not his concern. His goal was simply to form his core and transform into a higher form. As dusk settled, the kitchen became busy again. Bai Fan returned with a freshly cleaned body to the kitchen, where the clattering of pots and pans signaled another hectic night. With his chores done, Bai Fan checked on what was for dinner. His giant body took up much space. Overwhelmed by their tasks, the young workers often had to step over him. Eventually, they couldn’t stand it anymore and said, “Big snake, the kitchen is very busy today. Dinner will be late. Please wait outside, and we’ll bring your food to you later.” They ushered Bai Fan out. The kitchen was especially busy, probably due to the upper sect cultivators. Did those fasting people also have cravings? Bai Fan grumbled inwardly, feeling that those upper sect cultivators had disrupted his dinner. Outside, Bai Fan watched dishes being carried out one by one in a grand manner. The ones receiving the food were some of the few female disciples in Qingxu Sect, each outstandingly beautiful. Draped in delicate veils, they moved gracefully, resembling worldly beauties more than cultivators. Finally, after all the dishes were presented, the young workers brought Bai Fan’s dinner. Yes, they brought it, considering Bai Fan’s enormous size and appetite, and his preference for cooked food. Not far from the kitchen was a large wooden basin meant for Bai Fan. Large enough to hold a person, the young workers poured buckets of cooked meat into it, filling it up to the brim after seven or eight buckets. Exhausted, they wiped their sweat and reflected that having a demonic beast was a good idea for labor but feeding it was troublesome. Satisfied with the heaping basin of cooked meat, Bai Fan began to eat. He bit down and swallowed without chewing. In no time, the basin was emptied, but Bai Fan still felt unsatisfied. Nearby, some young workers felt goosebumps all over. Despite witnessing Bai Fan’s eating habits numerous times, it still made them uncomfortable, feeling like they were choking. After finishing, Bai Fan leisurely crawled into the bushes, his pace slow and unhurried like the elderly kitchen worker stirring the fire. Nobody cared where Bai Fan went at night. As long as he showed up for labor in the day and didn’t steal food, Li Lin wouldn’t restrain him. Still full, Bai Fan crawled erratically through the bushes. Qingxu Sect, being a modified gorge, had many cliff edges hidden among thick flora. But Bai Fan, a snake demon who had lived for decades, was not easily troubled by small dangers. ## Chapter 11 (continued) In the darkness, Bai Fan’s vision was superior to anyone else's. He was thinking of finding a high place to bask in the moonlight, climbing haphazardly upwards. Occasionally, stones would tumble down, a sight that would terrify a common person, for one false step could mean a fatal drop. Above, Bai Fan reached a pavilion, its interior illuminated by candlelight, where an opulent feast was taking place. The Old Sect Master sat in the center with Li Liansheng standing beside him. On either side of the Old Sect Master were a young man and woman, while Gu He and Li Xiaoyan stood just outside the pavilion. With a rustling sound, Bai Fan finally made his way up from below. The moment he surfaced, he saw the people inside the pavilion and immediately glanced at Liansheng before turning his attention to the young man and woman. Both of them exuded extraordinary presence, making Qingxu Sect’s disciples seem mundane by comparison. Even Bai Fan found Liansheng to appear somewhat understated in their presence. The woman, in particular, was stunning as she sat there quietly, resembling a portrait rather than a real person. She wore a flowing, wide-sleeve blue gauze robe with a white dress, her black hair cascading like a waterfall, held up by a single wooden hairpin. Throughout, she had not uttered a single word. The young man’s appearance was equally remarkable; he possessed a refined, aloof demeanor. Holding a cup, he engaged in conversation with the Old Sect Master but spoke sparingly. The Old Sect Master, in stark contrast, was extremely enthusiastic, talking endlessly. “The matter at Wan Feng Tai still hasn’t been resolved by the upper sect?” the Old Sect Master cautiously inquired. “Hmm.” “What does Qingxu Sect need to do?” “Wan Feng Tai requires a large number of ordinary disciples.” Upon hearing this, the Old Sect Master’s eyes widened. “Qingxu Sect has barely over two hundred disciples, most of whom are still Qi Refining stage novices who haven’t shed their mortal shells. Sending them to Wan Feng Tai is tantamount to sending them to their deaths.” “This is an edict from the upper sect.” --- 上一章 目錄 下一章 --- 首頁電腦版書架小說大全熱門小說
