Sheng Ji turned his back on Sheng Lan, resolutely refusing her request, especially since the person was in East Continent. "You don't need to say anything more; I won't agree to it. Just stay home and cultivate for now." Sheng Lan became anxious upon hearing this and was about to speak again when Sheng Ji vanished. The front hall was left empty, with just the chairs remaining. Sheng Lan, clenching her fists and gritting her teeth, turned to the few Nascent Soul cultivators behind her and commanded, "Tell me his location." These cultivators were still injured, as healing a damaged primordial spirit wasn't easy. It often depended on luck; those less fortunate might never recover without the aid of spiritual elixirs. However, spiritual herbs that could mend a primordial spirit were the rarest in the world. Sheng Ji had managed to obtain such a herb only by a stroke of incredible luck. Now, the one who auctioned off the herb was long gone, and the mouths of those at Crescent Lake were tight, unwilling to divulge any information about the seller. "Miss Sun, please do not make this difficult for us. The elder has already spoken, and we dare not defy him." Sheng Lan was infuriated, shouting angrily at the Nascent Soul cultivators kneeling before her, "Useless!" She stormed off, leaving behind the few cultivators who remained, looking rather downcast. Though their cultivation levels were not low, they had to become retainers of the Sheng family due to the scarcity of resources in the Northern Continent. If not for Sheng Ji, none would deign to suffer the whims of a young girl. After Sheng Lan left, she wasn't about to let the matter drop. It had now become a thorn in her side, especially since the golden bangle had yet to be recovered. That bangle represented the entire savings of the Blue-robe Sect, and she had to account for its loss to the old sect master. Before going into seclusion, the old sect master had instructed her to lead the disciples well. To gain more resources in Loulan City, relying on her grandfather was not an option, or he would be even less likely to let her leave. Joining the Blue-robe Sect was initially her way of proving herself. At that moment, she had no idea that her grandfather had already destroyed the Red Flower Association. She still thought the Blue-robe Sect was fiercely battling them. To gather information, she quietly hid after leaving the room and then followed those Nascent Soul cultivators. In the courtyard where the cultivators were healing, they sat cross-legged in a circle, floating slightly due to the spiritual energy fluctuations. Their robes billowed as if moved by an invisible wind, giving off an ethereal aura. Even with their eyes closed, they were aware of someone squatting outside, that someone being Sheng Lan. While they couldn't directly tell her the location, it didn't mean they couldn't let her find out on her own. Sheng Lan patiently waited for them to finish cultivating. When they slowly opened their eyes, they communicated via voice transmission. "The little girl outside still hasn't left." "How long will she keep following us?" "Since she's so eager for revenge, why not give her a hand?" "Help her with what? Do you want to die? Sheng Ji's divine sense covers the entire Loulan City." "We don't have to say it outright; she can find out herself." After a moment of silence, the one who had spoken earlier finally spoke out loud, "Fellow Daoists, when will the thief currently hiding in the East Continent forest come out? If that thief stays with that great demon, we won't have a chance to get close." "We should wait until we're all healed before making a move. I've left a trace on the thief's aura; as long as he doesn't go too far, we can find him." He then took out a small red ladybug and showed it to the group. Sheng Lan's eyes lit up at the sight of the ladybug, thinking that if she got hold of it, she could find her target. But how to take the ladybug from them? While she pondered, the Nascent Soul cultivator holding the box with the ladybug deliberately spoke aloud. "We'll head to the Crescent Lake auction tonight to see if we can find more spiritual herbs. Our primordial spirit injuries must be treated." Saying this, he placed the box with the ladybug on a stone table outside the courtyard. The group then swaggered out of the Sheng family mansion, leaving Sheng Lan pressed against the wall. Seeing that they had left, she carefully sneaked into the courtyard, grabbed the box with the ladybug, and disappeared. The Nascent Soul cultivators, amused, headed to the Crescent Lake auction house. With the ladybug, Sheng Lan planned her escape, which was greatly complicated by her grandfather’s surveillance over Loulan City. Meanwhile, far in the East Continent, Bai Fan was focused on alchemy. Since Hui Haozi had refined the Unity Pill, he had started teaching Bai Fan alchemy himself. The first pill was a simple Qi Development Pill. Hui Haozi handed Bai Fan a recipe for the pill. "Find these herbs and bring them to me for inspection." "Yes, elder." Bai Fan took the recipe and started gathering the herbs. Hui Haozi, a centuries-old great demon, had a nearly complete collection of herbs, rivaling that of a small sect. Although the quantity was limited, the variety was comprehensive. Using a small dustpan, Bai Fan checked each herb's name against her memory, marking them off as she found them. Soon, she had located all the ingredients needed for the Qi Development Pill. "Elder, please inspect these." Nervously, Bai Fan handed over the herbs. Despite her good memory, some herbs looked very similar, with only subtle differences, especially in the dimly lit cave illuminated by night pearls. Hui Haozi took the dustpan, carefully examining each leaf. Experienced alchemists were meticulous, even with basic herbs, to minimize waste and maximize yield. Satisfied, Hui Haozi nodded, "Correct. Now, choose a pill furnace." He gestured towards the various furnaces by the fire, ranging from as tall as Bai Fan to ones as small as her palm. After some deliberation, Bai Fan chose a medium-sized furnace, which she could comfortably hold and deemed convenient. "Have you chosen?" "Yes." "Then come over. I'll teach you how to ignite the furnace." "Yes." Hui Haozi glanced at Bai Fan's choice. He remembered his own initial choice of a large furnace, which nearly exhausted him. The little dragon was more sensible in her selection. Unaware that Bai Fan's choice was purely based on ease of handling, if she had the strength, she would have picked the largest. Placing the furnace down, it echoed like bronze. Rolling up her sleeves, Bai Fan stood ready for Hui Haozi. Hands behind his back, Hui Haozi mimicked a human instructor, approached the furnace, stroked his mustache, inspected the interior, and then said, "Watch carefully as I ignite the furnace." With a gesture, he purified the furnace of dust. "Preheating the furnace is essential. An unused furnace is at ambient temperature, and placing herbs inside immediately would impair their efficacy." Bai Fan realized there was more to preheating than she had thought. The furnace spun like a basketball in Hui Haozi's hand, eventually looking spotless. With a green flame in his palm, different from the usual red earth fire, Hui Haozi slowly enlarged it, enveloping the whole furnace. "This flame is called Dan Fire, and any cultivator at the Foundation Establishment stage can use it. It’s essentially the fire produced by the friction of the spiritual energy within your body." Upon hearing this, Bai Fan decided to give it a try herself. However, as soon as she opened her hand, what emerged wasn’t a flame, but a misty cloud of spiritual energy. Seeing this, Hui Haozi hurriedly extinguished his Dan Fire and placed the pill furnace down. "You need to create friction with your spiritual energy." "But I don’t know how to make my spiritual energy create friction." "Spiritual energy is an extension of your limbs. Just as you can control your arms and legs, you can control it. I'll teach you more once you can use Dan Fire." With that, he turned away to attend to his own matters. Hui Haozi hadn’t yet consumed the Unity Pill and was preparing to enter seclusion for cultivation, as he had been stuck at the early stage of the Great Ascension for centuries. Bai Fan stared intently at her palm, perplexed. She had always relied on intuition to use her spiritual energy, never thinking about how to control it consciously. When immense amounts of spiritual energy had flowed into her body in the past, it had nearly overwhelmed her until the realm of dreams resolved it. How could she make it create friction? Imagining spiritual energy as an extension of her limbs was like trying to move a single strand of hair with her mind. It reminded Bai Fan of the psychic abilities she had read about in her previous life, where people would bend spoons with their thoughts. But thought alone wouldn’t create fire in this world. The spiritual energy in her palm spouted continuously like a tiny fountain. Bai Fan watched it for a while, then extended both hands, creating a ball of light in each. "I can’t control you with my mind, so let’s see if my hands can rub you together to create sparks." Slowly, under Bai Fan’s control, her hands moved closer together, causing the two balls of spiritual energy to touch. The spiritual energy from the two different sources seemed to recognize each other as rivals and began to intertwine. --- Thank you to the little angels who voted for me or provided me with nutrient solutions~ Thank you to the little angels who provided [nutrient solutions]: - 女月 10 bottles; Your support means the world to me!
