I Reincarnated as a Villainess, but I'm Playing a Yuri Game Author: Hei Asomi Previous Table of Contents Next 603/1418 Chapter 601: "Sniping" After finishing our event, we returned to our seats where the awaiting group warmly welcomed us. "Welcome back, Lady Sakuya! You were amazing!" "Sakuya-chan, that was incredible!" "Could it be that An is right and you're an android? May I investigate?" "Thank you, Azami-chan, Seri-chan. And Renka-chan, please stop with the hand gestures..." While I'm not entirely sure how 'amazing' Azami-chan found me, I understand that they are genuinely complimenting me. Well... when cute girls tell you "you were amazing" with dreamy expressions, it's hard not to have improper thoughts. I'll store those compliments in my memory to replay at convenient times. Anyway, Renka-chan... I'm not an android, and I'd appreciate it if you'd stop wiggling your fingers like that. It makes me unnervingly anxious. Plus, it seems like those fingers are targeting my chest area, making me feel all tingly even though I'm not actually being touched. "Sakuya-chi, you were amazing!" "...Yeah! You were awesome!" "Um... you were amazing!" Seriously, ladies... do you not have a broader vocabulary? As for Karin, wasn’t the last "amazing" a bit unnecessary? "Um... shouldn’t you all be returning to your own seats?" "I only have the dance and the relay left." "...Yeah. Dance only for me." "Suzuran-chan... why such a lie...? You and I have the centipede race together, don't we?" Hmm... It seems like Hozuki really only has the relay left. The girls all have the dance, which isn't worth mentioning separately. And apparently, Suzuran lied about having a centipede race with Karin. Why tell such an easily discovered lie? "Look, the centipede race participants are being called. Today, I’m on a different team, so I’ll cheer for Class 3, but you two must do your best, too!" "...Yeah! If Sakuya cheers for me, I'll come in first!" "Haha... I'll do my best..." Suzuran seems fired up with spirit, but judging from Karin's response, they probably don't stand much chance of winning. I’ll watch them leave for the race and focus on cheering from my seat. "Um, Hozuki-san...? Aren’t you returning to your seat?" "There's no point going back alone if Karin and Suzuran are gone! Can’t I stay here?" "Ugh!" A slightly tanned, healthy-looking girl gazes up at me with watery eyes. It’s almost heartbreakingly earnest. Were Lady Sakuya doing this, others might suspect ulterior motives, but with Hozuki, who usually exudes a breezy, wholesome vibe, it genuinely seems like she’s troubled. "I have no objections, but technically you’re from a rival team, and with everyone from our class here, there are no available seats." Truthfully, while it's class versus class, no one's being hostile over it. Besides Hozuki, there are others mingling with friends from different classes. Though I personally don't mind, some might, and there’s no open seat with everyone gathered here. She can't just stand around the whole time. "Oh! Then can I sit on Sakuya-chi's lap?" "Well... erm... before I answer, you've already sat down..." Despite asking if she could sit, she's already seated, sideways on my lap. Now... Hozuki's behind is resting on my thigh... If I had a certain male appendage, it'd be an embarrassing situation! The softness, the warmth! How can one not be keenly aware of it? "Is it uncomfortable? Am I heavy? Oh! Or is my butt too hard? Should I turn around?" "Well... um..." I assumed if she worked out, her butt would be firm. But it's not. Hozuki's behind is taut and modest, yet soft in a very girlish way. Unlike a guy’s, it's soft, warm, and makes me think all sorts of inappropriate things. "Hozuki-san... I'll have a talk with you later." "Eek!?" At Satsuki-chan's smile, which wasn’t quite a smile, both Hozuki and I froze, inhaling sharply. The anger of a traditionally elegant Japanese beauty is genuinely terrifying. "J-just joking, let's stop with that..." "Hozuki... you're weak. Succumbing to Satsuki’s stern words means you'll never have the chance to share a bed with Lady Sakuya." As the formidable Satsuki-chan had Hozuki get off my thigh, Azami-chan whispered something which made Hozuki respond, but with the crowd’s cheers, I couldn’t make it out clearly. "Never mind that! Suzuran and Karin are running now!" "Huh? Oh... Right, of course." Upon looking towards the ground, all the teams were participating in the second-year centipede race. But... "Oh no..." "Just as I expected." "Haha... they were like that during practice, so no surprises here." Ignoring the prediction about how it would turn out, Azami merely shrugged and Hozuki let out a rueful chuckle. Ideally, we would be cheering for Class 3, but naturally, you can't help but watch close friends when they're competing. Yet, Suzuran was not in sync at all, ending with the entire Class 4 tumbling forward in a pile. They didn't fall sideways in a way that would cause injury, but they stumbled forward and collapsed in a heap, taking time to get up. While the race continued, as many had predicted, Class 4 ended up in the last place. ~~~~~~ As the last major event of the morning, the boys from all grades participated in a combined gymnastics assembly. In a previous life, I never found the gymnastics we conducted particularly fun, feeling only hardship. But observing others, it’s more captivating than I thought. When aligned beautifully or when a spectacular move was executed, it drew involuntary gasps from the audience. After the gymnastics display, the morning schedule concluded, leading into the lunch break. Along with the members of my class, the three girls from Class 4 joined us as we headed for lunch. "Though some are having lunch with their guardians, are you all staying here, Sakuya-chi and the others?" "Yes, we promised to do so." Indeed, some students were dining with guardians. However, we always gather with this group for meals. Even if there's an event, we discuss plans in advance, so nobody suddenly disappears on the day itself. "However, if anyone wishes to take advantage of this rare opportunity to dine with their parents, they should be prioritized. It's not necessary for everyone to stay together." We're always together, so it's become routine, but eating with family when they're around is a valuable experience. We can have lunch together anytime, yet the chance to share an event like a sports festival meal with one's parents happens only twelve times from elementary to high school. "We can eat with our family at any time! But sharing a meal with Lady Sakuya is something only possible during our school years! What's the point of wasting one of those rare opportunities just to eat with parents?" No, no… You've got it backward... We have countless opportunities to eat together during school days for twelve years. But meals with parents at a sports festival only happen twelve times. "Oh! Sakuya-tan! Can I join in too?" Hmm? An's coming over. "Of course—oh." "Huh?" Seeing An's face reminded me. I have something to address with her. "An-san? Who's an android? And what was with that teasing announcement? It felt like bullying, doesn't it? Do you hold some kind of grudge against me?" "Uh... haha... see ya!" "You're not escaping!" I quickly caught An as she tried to dodge me and spent our lunchtime giving her a stern talking-to. Now, what were we discussing before that? It must not have been too important since no one mentioned it. ~~~~~~ The afternoon began with a combined dance for all the girls across grades. Dancing right after lunch seemed questionable, but since it's not too physically demanding, it could be a good way to aid digestion. As the short afternoon session progressed, we reached the final event… This would mark the end of this year's sports festival. "And now the final event is upon us! The Mixed Relay with both boys and girls! Once again, all eyes are on the relay queen, Lady Sakuya Kujo!" Wait, when did I become known as the relay queen? I certainly don't remember that... And it seems An's microphone performance has mellowed a bit, likely due to the talking-to earlier... or is it just my imagination? "We have the current overall scores: Class 3 is in the lead, Class 2 in second, Class 4 in third, and Class 1 in last. Class 1 has no chance of winning overall, and Class 4 can only pull ahead if they place first and Class 3 comes in fourth. Class 2 has a good chance of victory if they finish ahead of Class 3." It seems An is offering a straightforward explanation. As she said, Class 2 could overturn this if they surpass Class 3. However, if Class 4 wins, Class 2 wouldn't be able to clinch it. Unlike in elementary school, points aren't set up for major comebacks right at the last moment. Still, to keep the excitement, the relay holds significant points. How Class 1 will fare being out of contention isn't known, but the other three classes are fiercely competitive. "But in any case, with Lady Kujo breaking away, Class 3's victory is assured! Focusing on rankings or the race means little, so let's just savor Lady Kujo's running!" An... it seems I didn't address things thoroughly enough... Remember this later. "Ready... set..." With a crack, the final showdown began. I didn't plan on losing, so I'd stay alert. In competitions, you never know what might happen until the very end. "Sakuya-chi! Go all out, no holding back!" "Yes. Let's give it our all and compete fairly." I nodded at Hozuki’s words as the girls' representative for Class 4. Being a relay, the race is already staggered at the starting line. This can't be considered a fair challenge between me and Hozuki. For a true test, we’d need a simultaneous start. This is a race between Class 3 and Class 4, not a personal duel. "Now… the first-year boys are rounding the fourth corner onto the final stretch! Class 2 is in the lead, closely followed by Class 4! Class 3 and Class 1 are slightly behind! How will this play out as it passes to the second-year girls!?" Letting the leading teams take the inside track, I received the baton as I moved inward after Class 2 and Class 4 started. "Yeah!" "Huh?!" "Too fast! Lady Sakuya Kujo is too fast! She's quickly overtaken the leading Class 2 and Class 4 and is now pulling ahead into a solo lead!" Though slightly behind initially, I overtook going into the first corner. Once this gap was sufficient, I'd hand the baton to Nishikori... "—huh!?" "Oh! What's this? Suddenly, Lady Kujo seemed to falter! Did something happen?" On the straight after turning the second corner, something shot toward my leg. I adjusted, barely dodging, causing a stagger and some loss of time. There's still ample course left, and I wasn't overtaken, so it wasn't a problem, but was that a BB pellet? It felt like I was being targeted. Did no one else notice? I was clearly shot at from the stands... The pellets didn’t reflect light and were hardly noticeable. My teacher might've seen it, but most wouldn't. Who did this? What was their goal? Can I withstand a direct hit? It's likely not strong enough to cause severe injury or pierce skin. Even if toxic, it wouldn’t penetrate bodily. But the pressure couldn't help but throw off my concentration during the race. I passed the baton to Nishikori without further shots. But something still felt off… This year’s sports festival felt tainted. While I could keep it to myself, stopping others from unnecessarily worrying, the race ended with Class 3 winning the relay, followed by Class 2, Class 4, and finally Class 1. Was the shooter targeting me or simply aiming to disrupt the festival? It seemed like either was possible, especially as this tactic seemed odd for mere disruption. I had a pretty good idea about the culprit’s ties. The motive behind targeting me remains a mystery, but I suspect the truth will come out in the next student council election. As always, thank you for reading. Usually, when interpretations in readers' feedback differ from my intentions, I explain via comments to those specifically, without necessarily addressing the entire audience. However, regarding the previous conversation with Hozuki, it seems some readers have misunderstood, prompting this additional clarification. The previous interaction with Hozuki went as follows: Hozuki approached, saying, "I wouldn't be able to compete with someone as special as Lady Sakuya unless it's a special opportunity." ↓ Sakuya responded—unconsciously, with no ill intent—"Aren't we normal friends who can compete anytime if you'd just say the word?" ↓ Everyone thought, "Oh no, saying that must have embarrassed Hozuki," realizing Hozuki might feel flustered being spoken to that way. ↓ Upon realizing Sakuya's genuine, unconscious intent, Hozuki smiled and waved goodbye. ↓ When Sakuya consulted Satsuki-chan, she said, "Didn't you already resolve it on your own?" However, from another perspective, it could be read as: Hozuki wanted to create a special memory on a special occasion. ↓ Sakuya expressed a desire to play with the group rather than running with Hozuki, thinking running could happen any time. ↓ This left Hozuki smiling with a tinge of loneliness. Since the narrative is from Sakuya's perspective, Hozuki's inner feelings weren't spelled out, leaving room for interpretation. There seemed to be more readers interpreting it differently than the author's intention, which prompted me to offer this clarification.
