234 - I Don’t Want to Be Turned Into the Female Protagonist by the System
Chapter 234: Bai Miao as a Little Sister? Watching Su Qi dart away, Bai Miao was puzzled. Had her gaze been too intense earlier and given something away? That couldn't be; she had only glanced for an instant. Confused, Bai Miao saw the little girl hiding behind the curtains and found it amusing. Was this a game of hide-and-seek? However, playing during meals wasn't good, as it might cause indigestion. So, she advised, "Don't think about playing while eating." As she spoke, she walked over to the curtain and skillfully caught Su Qi like a little pet. Su Qi looked at the embrace from Bai Miao and felt relieved when she realized that her gaze wasn't as aggressive as her two partners'. Settling back on the sofa, Su Qi found herself seated on Bai Miao's lap. Bai Miao's body was very warm, holding her felt like being near a heater, especially today when she wore a white summer dress with little fabric. It felt soft. Though her chest wasn't as big as her partner An Ning's, the warmth made the experience just as comforting. Watching the restless Su Qi squirming in her embrace, Bai Miao felt the softness and delicacy of the small girl. The faint fragrance that wafted occasionally to her nose made hugging her seem perfect. Realizing she couldn't escape Bai Miao's hug, Su Qi gave up struggling. As the saying goes, if something is unavoidable, you might as well enjoy it. Besides, Bai Miao's embrace was genuinely comfortable. Su Qi found the coziest spot and settled, just as Bai Miao offered another dumpling. This time it was a fennel stuffing dumpling. Su Qi's petite face twisted with distaste, as she wasn't fond of fennel and found the taste odd. After swallowing the dumpling, Su Qi scrutinized the next one before assuming it was beef, which she could eat with ease. To her surprise, each bite offered a different flavor, making her find the experience increasingly intriguing. Watching the delight in Su Qi's eating, Bai Miao couldn't help but marvel at how well businesses understood customer desires these days. After Su Qi grimaced at a celery dumpling, she glanced up at Bai Miao, asking a question that had been on her mind: "Miao, why have you been so busy lately?" Feeling warmed by Su Qi's concern, Bai Miao explained, "It all began two weeks ago on a stormy night. A huge bolt of lightning struck behind the third building. Some claimed it was aliens controlling the weather, and a little boy said he saw a fleeting silhouette of a person." Hearing this, Su Qi felt embarrassed because that 'alien' was her! Why call it alien involvement? She felt indignant. Bai Miao continued her rant, "Because of what that boy said about aliens, reporters went wild, asking daily if I believed in aliens." Noticing Bai Miao's weary eyes and faint dark circles, Su Qi felt guilt-ridden. After all, she was the 'alien' controlling lightning. Listening to Bai Miao complain about the boy and aliens, Su Qi felt like a double agent. However, she knew she couldn't reveal the system's existence, so Su Qi shook her head and said, "It’s probably not aliens." After all, she was still a human. Bai Miao agreed with Su Qi's opinion, nodding in approval, and continued telling about the complaints she had to handle with various authorities. Su Qi was astonished at the unforeseen chaos her actions created, leading to so many appointments and discussions. As she watched Bai Miao's furrowed brows, Su Qi felt intensely sorry. Reflecting, Su Qi turned and straddled Bai Miao, softly smoothing out her furrowed brows with her fingers. Bai Miao felt a warm sensation in her heart as she watched Su Qi's careful actions. Thinking that she hadn’t been of much help to this little girl even during court matters and seeing Su Qi’s concern, Bai Miao felt guiltier. The more she thought, the more unqualified she felt as an older sister. Meanwhile, this little girl seemed increasingly like the perfect little sister. Su Qi's delicate and cool fingertips reflected Bai Miao's familiar face in her pearl-like black eyes. Knowing the ideal little sister thought so highly of her made Bai Miao's heart race with emotion. She instinctively wanted to hug this adorable girl, but she forgot she was holding chopsticks, which accidentally fell to the floor. Thankfully, Su Qi was engrossed and didn't notice, allowing Bai Miao to feel relieved. She cherished these moments of interaction with her ideal sister. Breathing in Su Qi's faint aroma and feeling the lightness of the girl straddling her was reassuring and relaxing as her gentle touch and warm breath made Bai Miao's consciousness blur. As Su Qi observed Bai Miao, who seemed drowsy even while sitting, she pitied the struggles of working adults. Considering that sleeping in a chair might cause a stiff neck, Su Qi suggested, "Miao, let’s go to bed and sleep!" Normally, Bai Miao would be thrilled to hear such words, but she was too exhausted to react now. It wasn't that she hadn't been sleeping; rather, she had too many concerns lately, leading to insomnia fueled by anxiety. Now, enveloped in Su Qi's gentle fragrance, she longed for just one proper nap. Drowsily, she allowed herself to be guided to the bed, suddenly feeling like she was resting on a soft, elastic, and very comfy pillow. Surprised, Su Qi watched over the defenseless Bai Miao, who was sleeping soundly on her lap, realizing the irony from the usual impression of Bai Miao as a strong woman, much like An Ning. Yet, observing Bai Miao, she felt more of a sisterly connection, surprised by this childlike side. Realizing that Bai Miao's exhaustion was partly her doing, Su Qi didn't push her off her lap. Instead, she carefully positioned her legs to provide a more comfortable resting spot. Watching Bai Miao sleep peacefully on her knees, Su Qi found it a little miraculous. She never imagined she would ever have the opportunity to give someone a knee pillow. In her dreams, Bai Miao felt a burden lifted away along with her stress, feeling like she was young again. Seeing Bai Miao's brows slowly relax, becoming increasingly dependent, Su Qi felt a nurturing instinct grow within her. What was it like to take care of someone? Su Qi couldn't put her finger on it. Yet, as someone who had always been the younger sibling, she found their current relationship akin to how an older sibling would be with her. Though now, Bai Miao seemed more like a little sister, and she like an older one. Bai Miao as a little sister? She thought that wasn't too bad. Looking at her peacefully sleeping little sister-like Bai Miao, Su Qi couldn’t help but recall some playful moments. Was she voluntarily setting herself up here? Gently poking Bai Miao’s cheek without waking her, Su Qi mischievously decided to explore further gently with her curious hands.
