[Volume 5]: Chapter 5 - A Sweet Girl Won’t Be Fooled By The Villainess
This is Ifia's first encounter with a demonized human. In the past, she had only seen fictional characters in novels and anime, so she could never have imagined that she would be able to see one in person now! However, the demonized Count Durer was different from the demon form Ifia had imagined. He was a very plump middle-aged man, with the characteristic round belly of his age, protruding prominently like the curve of a full-term pregnancy when viewed from the side. His body was plump, and his face was no exception. His plump cheeks squeezed his eyes into a narrow slit. It was unclear whether he had been overeating due to being possessed by a demon recently, for he looked as heavy as three hundred catties. Even if he had horns on his head and his eyes turned bloodshot now, there seemed to be nothing terrifying about it. When Count Durer chuckled, the church clergy sprang into action. The priests began chanting with holy books in their hands, while the nuns stood behind them, bowing their heads in prayer. Ifia was stunned by what she saw. Then she tugged at Amelia's sleeve again and asked curiously, "Amelia, do the actions of these people in the church work?" "More effective than your cross," replied Amelia helplessly, gazing at Ifia. If it had been anyone else asking such a boring question, she would have killed them long ago. But for Ifia, Amelia just couldn't bring herself to, and that was good enough for her. She didn't find Ifia annoying but rather thought that her curiosity was too much. However, upon hearing Amelia say that her cross wasn't good, Ifia immediately got angry. "Amelia, you don't understand the importance of the cross. In the past, from what I read in those books... Anyway, it was recorded that a pious person who suffered was nailed to two intersecting wooden beams with a cross on top, and then..." Ifia only had a vague understanding of the origin of the cross. But in any case, she knew a bit, so she was brimming with confidence talking to Amelia, who knew nothing about it. Even in the parts where she didn't know how to explain it, she muddled through. In the end, she managed to finish it, though if asked again, she couldn't even remember it herself. But now she could at least show off in front of Amelia. "So, Amelia, you have to be devout to be protected and not be attacked by demons!" "I see." Amelia's face showed a look of sudden realization, making Ifia nod with a smile. However, the next thing Amelia said directly left Ifia speechless. "So, just believe in this one? Or should you also worship other gods and Buddhas together? Is that devout?" Sometimes, what Ifia said to Amelia was random. She even forgot it herself, but Amelia always remembered. After Amelia reminded her, Ifia immediately recalled. During a previous chat with Amelia, Ifia had boldly said that one shouldn't believe in only one deity, but in multiple. This way, the chances of being heard by the gods would be higher, and wishes would be easier to fulfill. Anyway, believing in one is, well, believing, and believing in many is the same, right? However, now she was caught off guard... Ifia scratched her nose and dodged Amelia's gaze, saying in a muddled manner, "Of course, you have to worship multiple deities. Sometimes those gods and even the gods are very busy, so you naturally have to ask for help from other deities." Ifia's twisted reasoning was endless. Amelia pinched her cheek, not asking further, and instead looked toward the battle with Count Durer. She explained, "The church clergy have the ability to communicate with the divine, so chanting can indeed suppress demons with the power of light." "But they are too weak and can't harm the demon at all." As Amelia finished speaking, Count Durer was unharmed. Instead, using his obese body, he pressed down on the clergy, almost suffocating them. He reached out, grabbed their hair, and shoved it into his mouth, muttering, "Delicious, delicious, delicious. It's so tasty that even the scalp is showing, and he even tore off a piece. They were chewed and swallowed by Count Durer." Seeing Count Durer behaving this way, the nobles were scared out of their wits. They hastily moved away from him to a safe distance. For a while, the scene was chaotic and very noisy. Just when Ifia was worried about being mistakenly hurt and wanted to pull Amelia away from there, Saint Tiffany took the initiative to step forward. She quickly drew a complex and intricate magic circle in the air and then sprinkled it with purified water. The purified water, which should have flowed smoothly to the ground, now remained suspended in mid-air. The magic circle in mid-air seemed to be filled with water. The next moment, it bloomed rapidly in the slightly dim room, and a familiar, dazzling white light burst forth. Ifia quickly closed her eyes to avoid the stinging light. After a while, when the light had dissipated, Ifia opened her eyes and saw that Count Durer, who had been attacking humans continuously, was now lying peacefully on the ground. The demon's horns that had protruded from his head had disappeared, and even when his eyelids were peeled back and carefully examined, no redness was found. So it was a successful exorcism? Ifia felt as if they were running in vain, without even getting a chance to step onto the field, just coming over to play a round and then leaving. (F,E) Okay! It's good that the Saint is powerful. It's better than putting Amelia's guards in danger. After Count Durer returned to normal, Butler Bise quickly ordered someone to take him away to freshen up. He then wasted no time in praising Saint Tiffany, "Your Grace, you are so mighty. You actually dispelled the demon in one go. If only we had asked you to help cure the count earlier." In the face of the butler's praise, Saint Tiffany remained unchanged, still exuding an untouchable sanctity. However, Taromati, who stood next to her, was all smiles. She stood tall and proud, radiating immense glory. "Everyone, you've all made a trip here, please stay for a late-night snack. It's also the Count's sincere thanks, so please don't refuse." Butler Bise was a smooth talker. With him saying that, the people who had initially wanted to go home for rest felt bad about leaving. Of course, most of them had heard that Count Durer loved food very much, so not only did he have money, but also many talented chefs were employed... This was an opportunity to taste the food, so naturally they couldn't miss it. Ifia was equally excited and thus, after agreeing to stay with Amelia, she left and headed to the kitchen to see the chefs at Count Durer's household and their cooking process. Though Ifia's culinary skills were quite good, she couldn't rest on her laurels and had to occasionally check the work of others. It was a pity that Count Durer's guards were very strict about the kitchen and didn't let Ifia in. Having walked away in vain, Ifia had to return. But on her way back, she bumped into a maid, causing a can of rose water to spill all over her, leaving Ifia instantly immersed in the fragrant smell of roses. Watching the anxious maid apologizing repeatedly, Ifia had to turn around and comfort her. Only after finally seeing the maid off did Ifia continue walking, emitting a strong rose fragrance. However, one unexpected event followed another, leaving Ifia standing behind a tree. Her face was full of shock as she saw Count Durer, who had already been exorcised, kneeling in front of Amelia, respectfully saying, "My liege, as you instructed, my task has been completed."
